In my role as a therapist, I think of myself as a humble partner to deeper powers of healing at work within us all. I find these influences mysterious and loyal, gentle and disruptive. It is a privilege and an honor to join others in this engagement with renewal and transformation. I never cease to be amazed with what comes of the therapeutic encounter.
Background and training
I received my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in 2017. Since that time, I have worked as a mental health counselor in outpatient clinic, inpatient hospital, and private individual therapeutic settings. Alongside these roles, I served at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, supporting graduate students in several capacities: training individuals in interpersonal and therapeutic skills, assisting instruction of experientially-based group therapy courses, and mentoring students in the work of integrating theology, psychology, and spirituality.
Additionally, I hold a background in philosophy, theology, and education, with a BA in Liberal Arts from Gutenberg College in 2010. This groundwork attunes me to the ways that some of our contemporary struggles find unexpected resonance among ancient longings and mysteries.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington, under my full name, Mary Ellen Belliveau. My license number is LH61254964.
Therapeutic orientation
I work from a relational, psychodynamic therapeutic orientation. I am informed by attachment theory, family systems theory, existential philosophy, narrative therapy, several body-based trauma therapies, Lifespan Integration, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance-Commitment Therapy.
